The Shekinah Festival and Auction will take place Sept. 12 in Plain City. The annual “Biggest Little Festival in Ohio” helps raise operation funds for the K-12 Christian school from which the festival gets its name. The 2015 Festival marks the 36th year for the festival and is the first year that it will feature a classic car cruise-in.
The festival begins (weather permitting) with the lift-off of hot air balloon rides that brings folks in early to watch this amazing sight as the sun rises. A breakfast booth opens at 7 a.m. serving coffee, Der Dutchman doughnuts and sausage sandwiches. Exhibit booths open at 8:30 a.m. and include a kid zone that has become popular with younger visitors. We have fresh-baked breads of many kinds, multiple varieties of cookies and a produce booth offering salsa that sells out every year no matter how many pints are made. At 10 a.m., food booths begin serving trail bologna and cheese sandwiches, homemade pizza, “walking tacos” and the always popular homemade ice-cream.
The auction begins at 9 a.m. this year to ensure that the entire gallery is put up for bidding. You can view the auction items on Facebook by searching for “Shekinah Festival Auction.”
There is a barrel train and a petting zoo and horseback rides for the little ones as well as a zip-line attraction that has become a popular addition to the festival.
On Friday evening, Sept. 11, there will be a free concert under the tent at 7:30 p.m. Entertaining us this year is John Schmid, who pays tribute to greats like Johnny Cash. Vendors will be serving pulled pork dinners and homemade ice cream from 5:30-8:30 p.m. with a silent auction in the tent.
