ST. PARIS – Area youths are invited to a free Youth Fishing Derby at Kiser Lake State Park marina on Saturday, July 25, beginning at 9 a.m. Sponsored by Ohio State Parks, the event is for everyone under age 18.
Participants will fish at the marina and prizes will be awarded in a variety of age groups for most fish caught. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist younger anglers. Participants must be present at noon to be eligible to win. At noon hot dogs will be served.
For youths under 16, parents may only assist with casting their lines. Participants must hook and reel the fish unassisted. Youths 16 and older must have a valid fishing license.
In addition to the derby, naturalist staff will feature a variety of fishing-related materials and activities for attendees, such as fish identification brochures and knot-tying skills.
At 7 p.m. a youth casting contest will be held at the playground in the middle of the campground. If not camping, park in front of the campground.
