LONDON – Chocolate lovers have something new to celebrate this Valentine’s Day.
Downtown London is hosting a chocolate walk from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. More than 20 downtown businesses will offer various chocolate treats for free to those who visit their stores.
The chocolate walk is the brainchild of Melinda Peters Elliott, owner of Fine Designs and Interiors.
“I’ve been trying to figure out some sort of a promotion that we could do downtown in the winter,” she explained. “We want more people to come downtown.”
So the day before Valentine’s Day, downtown building and business owners will open their doors and offer a sweet treat to the folks shopping downtown for their own sweeties, Peters Elliott said.
Ideas tossed around for the treats ranged from homemade fudge and eclairs to fudge-covered marshmallows and chocolate-covered strawberries.
Some stores will also be offering special sales to Saturday shoppers.
“We just really want to encourage people to explore the downtown and see what a great selection of stores we have right now,” she said. “We’ve come a long way in a year’s time.”
The chocolate walk has the strongest participation yet of any collective downtown business event, with only two businesses on South Main Street not participating, Peters Elliott noted.
“We’re praying there is no snow,” she added with a laugh. “I think it will be a fun time.”
Participating business include: Starr Trophy, Fine Designs, Yes & Amen, R&R Furnishings, Cade’s Closet, Mabe’s, Huntington Bank, Crager Real Estate, Rusty Duck, Firefly Sweet Shoppe, State Theater (2 to 3 p.m. only), Davis Seed, Ronettis, London Coffee Peddler, Piccadillies, Eva Maries, Phat Daddy’s, Bride & Formal on Main, Polish Loft, Casey’s Carrey-Out and Drive Thru, Gesundheit Gallery, and London’s Hand Me Downs.
