Pets of the Week

Time was up for Peaches at an animal shelter, but fortunately she was taken to PAWS Animal Shelter and is ready for adoption. Her caregivers say she’s a sweet pooch.

Sweet Frank is about 10 months old and could use a loving home. Check him out at PAWS Animal Shelter.

It took a few weeks to catch the wandering Radar, age 4. Fortunately, he was taken to the Champaign County Animal Welfare League and is now ready for adoption.

PAWS Animal Shelter (cat)

My name is Frank. I am about 10 months old. I am a sweet boy who loves to be petted. I love to play. I have been neutered and up to date on vaccinations and tested negative to Feline Leukemia. I would make a great addition to your family. Stop in PAWS Animal Shelter in Urbana and see what a sweet guy I am. My phone number is 937-653-6233, please call and ask about me.

PAWS Animal Shelter (dog)

This little lady’s name is Peaches an true to her name, she is a sweetheart.

Her life was soon to end at the shelter she was in, but she was brought to us at PAWS and given a new lease on life.

Peaches is a female Red Heeler/mixed breed, a beautiful dog. She is about 3 years old and she is a very gentle girl. She has gorgeous sea blue eyes. She loves attention and seems to interact well with the other dogs here, when properly introduced.

She has not been tested with children or cats yet, but given her sweet demeanor, I think she would do just fine.

Please stop and meet this lovely lady.

Champaign County Animal Welfare League

Champaign County Animal Welfare League (CCAWL) is pleased to introduce Radar as our Pet of the Week. Radar was found wandering the streets for several weeks before he was caught. He is 4 years old and appears to be house-trained. Radar gets along with other dogs, is indifferent to cats and likes children.

As with all Champaign County Animal Welfare League residents, Radar was completely vetted before being put up for adoption. He has been neutered, up to date on all vaccinations including rabies, worming, heart-worm testing and treated with flea and heart worm prevention. CCAWL adopted dogs are all micro-chipped and have their 2017 dog license and dental cleaning. If you are interested in visiting Radar or any other of the adoptable pets at CCAWL, please call us at 937-834-5236. We are located at 3858 State Route 56, Mechanicsburg, OH, 4344. Dog and Cat adoption applications can be found online at www.champaigncoanimalwelfareleague.com. You may fax an adoption application to 937-834-5171. A complete listing of our available pets may be found at www.petfinder.com and www.adoptapet.com.

CCAWL is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of the pets of Champaign County. We always appreciate your donations of bleach, paper towels, collars, leashes, Clorox wipes and laundry detergent.

If you are looking to support CCAWL by volunteering, we would love to meet you. Applications may be picked up at our location or downloaded from our website. We also require proof of a current tetanus shot to accompany the completed application.

As Easter approaches, make sure to keep all chocolate candy and foil wrappers away from your pets. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and can make them very ill or worse. Cats seem to be attracted to Easter grass which can cause many problems in their digestive system.

With the arrival of spring, it’s a good idea to start protecting your pet from fleas by beginning treatment for these tormentors. Unfortunately, for your pet, ticks never take any time off. They are always around and ready to attack. Besides the painful bites and sometimes difficult removal, ticks also carry serious diseases that can affect both animals and humans. Year-round protection is crucial for pets who spend any amount of time outdoors.

CCAWL’s new hours are Monday – 10:00 – 5:00; closed Tuesday and Sunday; Wednesday – 10:00 – 6:00; Thursday – 12 – 5:00; Friday and Saturday – 10:00 – 4:00 and closed the first Saturday of each month for training and orientation purposes.
